This market continues to grow

On Wednesday, Chinese home-appliance giant Haier introduced a comprehensive cooling solution for AI data centres. Developed entirely in-house, the system spans the full cooling chain - covering cold sources and distribution systems through to terminal equipment and liquid-cooling units.

Haier’s AI data centre cooling solution and operating modes

“By flexibly switching between air, liquid and hybrid modes, it makes it possible to balance rapid deployment, scalable expansion and adaptation to extreme conditions - like a ‘tailor-made’ intelligent cooling system for an AI superbrain,” said Fu Songhui, Vice President of Haier Smart Home.

Key technologies: magnetic-levitation bearings and energy-saving operation

Among the core technologies is an active magnetic-levitation bearing system, enabling the rotor to run without physical contact. The solution also features an enhanced energy-saving mode designed to make the most of natural cooling sources such as outdoor air, reducing reliance on mechanical cooling.

“Within this system, traditional refrigeration units can switch from being primary cooling sources to serving as auxiliary peak-load regulators,” Fu said.

Market outlook for data centre cooling systems

According to a report from research firm Market Monitor, the global market size for data centre cooling systems will reach 119.5 billion yuan (16.5 billion US dollars) by 2030, with a compound annual growth rate of 6.39%.
