Xiaomi is preparing to launch an ultra-slim power bank that measures just 6 mm thick, weighs 98 g, and still offers a 5,000 mAh capacity. This feat is made possible by a silicon-carbon battery, which can hold more energy in the same space.

As one of the biggest names in smartphones, Xiaomi is also heavily invested in accessories. Over the past few days, the brand has been teasing an exceptionally thin external battery for phones, and it is expected to be officially presented this weekend. However, as The Verge pointed out, the product is already listed on Xiaomi’s own website, revealing the key specifications.

Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 15W: ultra-compact everyday carry

The device is called the “Xiaomi UltraThin Magnetic Power Bank 5000 15W”, and its 5,000 mAh capacity matches that of many modern smartphones. Thanks to its compact footprint, it should slip easily into a pocket or bag, or attach discreetly to the back of a phone while it is topping up.

Charging options and a clean aluminium design

Xiaomi says the power bank can recharge a device either through wireless charging or via a USB cable. Design-wise, it goes for a minimalist look with an aluminium shell-an approach likely to appeal beyond Xiaomi’s own fanbase, including iPhone users.

Silicon-carbon technology comes to portable power banks

The most notable detail is the battery technology chosen to fit 5,000 mAh into such a slim body. Xiaomi explains: “The power bank features a high energy density silicon-carbon battery with 16% silicon, paired with a 4369 mm² graphite sheet, delivering a powerful 5,000 mAh capacity in an ultra-thin, card-like body, perfect for everyday top-ups.”

For context, silicon-carbon is a relatively new approach that either increases stored energy without increasing size, or reduces battery dimensions while keeping capacity the same. It is already appearing in various smartphones, such as the Redmi Note 15 Pro+ 5G, whose 6,500 mAh battery contains 10% silicon-carbon (for battery life that can reach up to 2 days).
